A 30-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of a 75-year-old man at a residence in Putney, located in south-west London.
According to the Metropolitan Police, emergency services were alerted around 03:30 GMT on Friday to a location on Deodar Road.
Emergency medical personnel from the London Ambulance Service attended to a man with stab wounds, but he was declared dead at the scene, as reported by the police.
The suspect is currently in police custody, and it is believed that he had a prior acquaintance with the deceased.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the victim’s next of kin has been notified, although formal identification has yet to occur.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Friday.
Detective Superintendent Amanda Mawhinney, of the south-west command unit, stated: “I understand that this incident may leave community members feeling distressed.”
“We consider this to be an isolated event and assure the public there is no ongoing danger.”
She also expressed the need for community assistance in piecing together what transpired.
“You may observe an increased police presence in the vicinity today as we conduct our investigations. There will be a crime scene established, along with road closures,” she mentioned.
Investigations are ongoing.
