LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter, Ippei Mitzuhara, was allegedly concerned in an unlawful playing operation with Southern California-based bookmaker Mathew Bowyer, resulting in an FBI investigation.

Mitzuhara is accused of stealing over $16 million from Ohtani’s account whereas Ohtani performed for the Los Angeles Angels. Mitzuhara, who primarily gambled on obscure soccer matches, is believed to have stolen the cash from Ohtani’s checking account.

Bowyer, a major gambler himself, misplaced hundreds of thousands in Las Vegas and cooperated with the investigation, receiving a one-year jail sentence. He has since written a e book about his experiences titled “Recalibrate.”
