Dean Lock, the director of Formula 1 broadcasting and media, responded to criticism from Spanish driver Carlos Sainz Jr. of Williams, who expressed dissatisfaction with the coverage of the Singapore Grand Prix. Sainz pointed out that the broadcast focused too heavily on celebrities and the drivers’ girlfriends.
“I believe that some of the comments were taken out of context. During that race, we showed off-track footage three times when there were no significant events happening. We have a responsibility to capture the entire atmosphere of the event — what occurs both on and off the track. This includes shots of the starting grid, the fans, and the podium. If we only showed close-ups of the cars on the track, you wouldn’t even know which circuit we were at,” Lock said, as reported by Autosport.
