There’s a certain kind of face that never quite leaves you once you’ve seen it on a big screen with a bucket of popcorn on your lap. The 1980s produced an unusual number of those faces, actors whose expressions, one-liners, and physical presence became shorthand for an entire decade of filmmaking. Some of them are still working today, showing up in new projects and awards shows, while others have quietly stepped back but remain instantly recognizable the moment their name comes up.

Harrison Ford spent the 1980s bouncing between two of the most beloved franchises ever made, playing the wisecracking smuggler Han Solo in the Star Wars sequels and the whip-cracking archaeologist in the Indiana Jones films. His weathered, reluctant-hero energy became a template that action movies leaned on for decades afterward. Few actors from that era managed to stay this central to popular culture for so long without seeming to try too hard.

He’s still working steadily, and the industry has been formally honoring that longevity. Over a six-decade career defined by indelible film and television roles, Ford was honored with the SAG Life Achievement Award at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards ceremony on March 1, 2026. He currently appears as a therapist on the Apple TV series Shrinking, a role that shows off a gruffer, more comedic side than most of his 1980s output ever did.
