There’s a strange kind of afterlife that some television shows get to experience these days. A series airs its final episode, ratings fade, cast members move on to other projects, and then, years later, it resurfaces on a streaming platform and suddenly everyone is talking about it again.
It’s a pattern that’s reshaped how the industry thinks about success. Nielsen’s streaming data, Netflix’s own viewership reports, and years of press coverage all point to the same conclusion: sometimes a show’s real audience shows up long after the network has moved on. Breaking Bad
When Breaking Bad first aired on AMC, it was respected by critics but far from a ratings juggernaut. Throughout its first four seasons, Breaking Bad was highly regarded by critics but didn’t light the ratings on fire. The show almost got lost in the shuffle of a crowded cable schedule.
Then Netflix stepped in and made the earlier seasons available before the final season aired on AMC.
