There’s a strange irony in movie marketing. Studios spend months building mystery around a film, teasing just enough to get people in the door, and then a single poster undoes all of that work in one glance. Sometimes it’s a tagline that gives too much away, sometimes it’s an image that practically narrates the third act. Either way, these nine posters proved that the biggest spoiler risk in a movie’s promotion cycle often isn’t the trailer at all.
1. Avengers: Infinity War

The international rollout for Infinity War included a Japanese poster with a tagline that essentially announced the film’s grim conclusion before anyone bought a ticket. The Japanese poster for Infinity War includes a line which roughly translates to “Avengers totally annihilated,” hinting at the Avengers’ failure to stop Thanos and their own losses as a result. For a franchise built on the promise that the heroes always find a way, that phrase alone undercut the suspense of the entire climax.
It was a shocking ending to the film, audiences are used to seeing the Avengers win, and some of the franchise’s most beloved characters were among those Thanos killed. Fans who happened to see this particular poster before release essentially knew the outcome going in. It’s a rare case of marketing translation issues accidentally creating one of the biggest spoiler controversies in modern blockbuster history.
2. Avengers: Endgame
