California and New York get all the credit for shaping the American film industry, and fair enough, since that’s where the studios and stages have always been. But actors have to come from somewhere before they get discovered, and plenty of the biggest names in Hollywood grew up far from either coast. Small towns in the middle of the country, football-crazed suburbs, and places better known for other industries have quietly sent an outsized number of people into film and television.

Oklahoma rarely gets mentioned in conversations about entertainment hubs, yet its list of Hollywood exports is longer than most people realize.
