Walk into most multiplexes today and the menu looks fairly predictable: popcorn, a few candy boxes, maybe some nachos if the theater has gone the food-court route. But concession stands used to rotate through a much wider cast of characters, some of them beloved enough that people still bring them up decades later. A handful of these snacks did not get a dramatic send-off. They simply stopped showing up one day, and nobody quite noticed until they went looking for them.
What follows is a look at six snacks that used to be concession stand regulars and have since faded from view, whether through discontinuation, shifting vendor contracts, or menus that quietly moved on without them.
1. Butterfinger BB’s
Butterfinger BB’s were small, round versions of the classic candy bar, and they became a genuine nineties phenomenon thanks in part to a marketing push that famously included The Simpsons. Backed by major marketing including The Simpsons, they became a ’90s staple before being discontinued in 2006, reportedly due to production challenges. The bite-sized format made them a natural fit for movie theaters, where a bag you could pour straight into your mouth beat wrestling with a candy bar wrapper in the dark.
