The Acolyte: A Big Budget Against Modest Returns

Disney’s Star Wars series arrived on Disney+ in 2024 and was gone within months. Disney executive Alan Bergman cited the high cost of producing the show as the main reason for not renewing it, with the series reportedly costing $230.1 million to make.
Bergman said Disney was pleased with the performance but that it fell short of what a second season would require at that price. Online backlash and heated fan debate surrounded the show, yet the company’s stated reasoning came back to the cost structure.
Kaos: Good Numbers That Faded Too Fast

Netflix’s Greek mythology dark comedy starring Jeff Goldblum looked like a safe bet. It spent four weeks in the Netflix top 10 and peaked at number three on the English language TV chart. Cancellation followed in early October 2024, roughly five weeks after it premiered.
