Las Vegas – A late-night tragedy unfolded on a busy stretch of roadway south of downtown, claiming the life of a man in a wheelchair.[1] The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported the fatal crash occurred just after 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, prompting an overnight investigation and road closures.[2] Authorities quickly arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence, highlighting ongoing concerns about impaired driving in the region.[3]

The Crash Sequence on Boulder Highway

A 43-year-old Las Vegas resident navigated his wheelchair across the northbound lanes of Boulder Highway, known locally as Fremont Street in that area, from east to west.[1] He crossed outside of any marked or unmarked crosswalk south of East Oakey Boulevard. At the same moment, a 2013 Kia Optima traveled northbound in those lanes.

The pedestrian entered the vehicle’s path, leading to a collision where the left front of the Kia struck both the man and his wheelchair.[4] The impact projected him northwest into a dirt center median. Medical personnel arrived to find the injuries unsurvivable and pronounced him dead at the scene.[5]

Driver Stops, But Impairment Detected
