Not every child star grows up chasing a second act in front of the camera. Some walk away from movie sets, red carpets, and fan mail entirely, trading them for stethoscopes, sawdust, or a classroom full of restless students. 1. Peter Ostrum: from Charlie Bucket to country veterinarian
Rather than continue as a child actor, Ostrum left the film business for good and opted to pursue a career as a veterinarian, attending Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. The studio wanted him locked into a three picture deal after Willy Wonka wrapped, but he had already fallen for something else entirely.
Young Peter purchased a horse with some of his earnings from the movie and worked as a stable hand, and the visits from the family’s veterinarian left a much bigger impression on him than the film set ever did.
