Robust Safety Enhancements Strengthen Campus Security

As the 2024-25 academic year commences, Houston Independent School District (HISD) has prioritized student and staff safety by implementing extensive security upgrades across its schools. These improvements are designed to create a more secure and reassuring environment for learning, reflecting the district’s commitment to proactive protection measures.

Among the key safety advancements are:

• Deployment of more than 2,000 advanced high-definition surveillance cameras strategically placed throughout campuses
• Introduction of cutting-edge visitor management systems at all primary entry points to monitor and control access
• Expanded emergency preparedness training programs for faculty and staff to enhance crisis response capabilities
• Upgraded communication networks that facilitate immediate coordination with local law enforcement agencies

Physical infrastructure has also been fortified, including the installation of reinforced perimeter fencing, improved lighting in parking lots and walkways, and redesigned traffic patterns to ensure safer student drop-off and pick-up procedures.
