Moving from the big screen to television is common. Having the same actor step back into the same role is much rarer. When it works, viewers get continuity that a recast can’t match.
The eight performers below all carried a character from a movie into a related series, whether a direct spin-off, a prequel, or a continuation. Each entry sticks to what’s well documented about the role and the shows.
Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson
Clark Gregg first played S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson in Iron Man in 2008. He returned in Iron Man 2, Thor, and The Avengers, so the character was already familiar to Marvel fans.
Coulson was killed in The Avengers, yet he came back as the lead of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which premiered on ABC in 2013. The series ran seven seasons and ended in 2020. It’s one of the clearest examples of a supporting film character growing into a television anchor.
Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter
Hayley Atwell played Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011. Peggy was Steve Rogers’ wartime ally and love interest, and the film made her central to his story.
ABC gave her a series, Agent Carter, which aired for two seasons in 2015 and 2016. It followed Peggy in the years after the war. Atwell has since returned to the role in other Marvel projects, including the animated What If…? series.
Tom Hiddleston as Loki
